Lava Therapeutics (LAVA) is a start-up company that develops next generation Vγ9Vδ2 T cell engaging bispecific antibodies for the curative treatment of cancer. LAVA started its operations in 2017 and is advancing its proprietary platform and pipeline of bispecific therapeutic antibodies, building on cutting-edge research originating from Prof. Hans van der Vliet’s group at the VU University Medical Center/ Cancer Center Amsterdam. In 2020, LAVA raised EUR 71 million in a series C financing round; this will allow LAVA to test it’s platform in the clinic and broaden its pipeline. As (Senior) Scientist you are part of the Research & Pre-clinical Development team. You work closely together with internal and external project teams on the effective design, execution, and analysis of the experimental work to deliver the development programs for LAVA drug candidates. The execution of experiments partially takes place in our own labs and is partially outsourced to contract labs. You contribute to the scientific understanding of our products and mode of action. You assemble and maintain the research and development information repository to allow efficient retrieval of scientific reports and other relevant documentation. Another responsibility is the design, management and interpretation of scientific experiments. You monitor and communicate progress on outsourced activities through project meetings and planning tools and you present data at research meetings and to management. In external project meetings, you represent LAVA’s interest. Finally, you write and review research reports, contribute to regulatory documentation and you perform literature searches.
You have an MSc and PhD qualification in Biomedical Sciences/Biotechnology with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in biotech research. You are an excellent researcher with the ability to identify and define problems, develop hypotheses, and develop and execute plans to test these. You have a track record of successful designing, executing and analyzing experiments.
You have strong problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills and a proven ability to learn and act on dynamic information at a rapid pace. You take initiative, enjoy working in a team and inspire others with your enthusiasm. You pay attention to detail and self-reflect on the quality of your work. You are capable of working on several projects in parallel and prioritize appropriately. Finally, you have outstanding written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English.
A full time position in a motivating and highly experienced research team. You will be offered a set of excellent labour conditions. Following a positive appraisal after a year of temporary contract, you will be offered a permanent position. Salary and benefits are according to biotech industry standards. The location of the position will be at LAVA’s office in Utrecht.
